$17.00
26 years later, Del, David (Kawika) and Dwight have come together to re-imagine and re-release their iconic 1998 album. Experience the harmonic synergy of these multi award-winning talents as they share the essence of Hawaiian music: pilina, mo`olelo and harmonies.
Long awaited re-release of SLACK KEY PRAISE, instrumental worship featuring Grammy®/Nā Hōkū Hanohano® Award Winner, Kawika Kahiapo, and Hawai'i's beloved, Leon Siu.
Kawika, Ki Ho'alu Master, is the recipient of numerous awards, including the “Slack Key Artist of the Year” award in 2007 at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. This CD, mostly instrumentals, highlights his much-sought-after mastery of slack key guitar. His passion for the art began as a child, when he was influenced by world-renowned slack key master, Gabby "Pops" Pahinui.
Introducing Kawika's slack key ukulele stylings, along with his voice of velvet.
"I wanted to approach this project old-school style:
a few acoustic instruments with a casual, easy-going tone, just like the good old days jamming with the cousins. These songs and their essence speak for themselves:
Kawaiola is a compilation of inspirational and spiritual songs that are close to Kawika's heart. The common thread throughout the album is Kahiapo’s deep spirituality. Kawaiola combines original and traditional Christian music, with an island flavor, some of which were on previous recordings, some brand new!
Kawaiola is a reflection of Kawika's gratitude for all he has and has accomplished; his values; and his heart. We hope you enjoy this musical journey with Kawika.
-By His Wounds/O Lord, You're Beautiful (in Hawaiian)
`ALANA is a celebration of love, family, faith and Hawaiian heritage in Kawika's soothing combination of contemporary and traditional Hawaiian tunes, along with ki-ho`alu, Slack Key guitar. This was Kawika's first solo release, which includes well-known and well-loved, "Ku'u Pili Oha," a love song written for his wife, Laurie.
Kawika recounts, in expository style, the sordid history of the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy and despoliation of her people, along with lighter island themes of surf, love and faith in his unique slack key styling and soothing voice.
